Malkangiri (Black Cat News): The Ashok pillar statue of the Government of India is lying in a state of disrepair on the premises of the Panchayat office on August 15 (Independence Day). Departmental authorities and administrative officials are not paying attention. As every year, on August 15 this year, preparations are underway by various institutions in different regions to celebrate Independence Day with much pomp. The irony is that since the establishment of the Korukonda Panchayat office in the Korukonda block headquarters in 1955, the National Flag of India has been hoisted on the occasion of the Commonwealth Day and Independence Day celebrations at the office premises.
A few years ago, the Panchayat authorities erected a statue of Ashoka on the flag-raising pillar of the Government of India. For some reason, some of the statues of the Ashoka pillar, the symbol of the Government of India, were destroyed. According to reports, the government has been in a state of disarray for about 3-4 years, but the panchayat authorities, elected representatives, and the administration are working to repair it."It simply came to our notice then. The Ashoka pillar statue is in a state of disrepair, while the flag-raising pillar celebrates Independence and Independence Day.
Locals and intellectuals have strongly condemned the incident, which is a symbol of the Indian government and a disgrace to the Ashoka pillar statue. Residents of the area have appealed to the district administration to take immediate action. Asked by Korukonda Panchayat executive officer Bir Ram Bhumia in this regard, he said it was asked to be repaired, but it was decided to remove the broken Ashoka pillar statue as it could not be repaired. Asked by Korukonda Block Group Development Officer Anshuman Mohapatra in this regard, he said the statue was asked to be repaired, but if not, steps would be taken in this direction immediately.
