Netflix's advertisement on the theme of Diwali has not been liked by a section of social media users as they claim it is a 'token' representation.
Netflix India is being trolled by social media users for its latest advertisement 'Cherrapunji Ki Diwali'. The OTT giant has launched a new advertisement on the occasion of the 'Festival of Lights' but somehow it has misled people in the wrong way. Many are saying that it is a 'token' representation and that no research has been done before conceptualizing or considering it. However, some are taking it sentimental, and even Netflix India defending the new ad, saying it spreads some much-needed Diwali joy.
Netflix's Cherrapunji Diwali Ad: What Is It About?
A new Netflix ad launched on the occasion of Diwali tries to show how the celebrations are done in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya. It has been credited as 'the wettest place on Earth due to the heavy rainfall it receives for most of the year. In the advertisement, the makers tried to link Diwali and rain and showed how locals celebrate Diwali, bursting crackers, lighting diyas, making rangolis, and wearing traditional clothes on the occasion despite heavy rains.

Netflix India was heavily trolled after the ad was shared online and seen by people, especially locals. Some netizens said that the weather conditions in the winter season are not as shown in the advertisement. Others pointed out that firecrackers were not bursting in the area and the locals are not very big on Diwali celebrations.
Commenting on the ad, an Instagram user said, "Diwali is when Cherrapunji's rains stop and it's the most beautiful time to visit. Hot and dry compared to Shillong also in autumn and winter. I'm in the monsoon months when the rains are really bad, let alone WiFi for Netflix. I wish you had done more research or a little effort to find out."
