Nowruz - A Festival of Iranian Tradition.

Nowruz, which means “New Day”, originated in Zoroastrianism, an Iranian religion. Though rooted in Iranian traditions, the festival is celebrated by many communities in Central and Western Asia. Nowruz marks the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

Nowruz is one of the oldest holidays and has a rich history that dates back over 3,000 years. The 13-day celebration begins with the vernal equinox when the sun crosses the equator. This widely symbolizes rebirth and the affirmation of life in harmony with nature

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif — On the first day of spring Persians celebrate Nowruz, also known as the New Year.

Nowruz, or “new day” in Farsi, falls on the first day of spring at the exact time of the equinox. It is a celebration of new growth.

Nowruz marks the spring equinox, when night and day are of equal length. This is usually on 20 or 21 March. It's the day when winter changes into spring in the northern hemisphere, and it feels like a new beginning.
