Chennai : In several parts of Tamil Nadu, heavy rains took place on Wednesday. The low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression and is likely to cross the coast by today evening.The intermittent, light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday in Tamil Nadu picked up pace by the evening.It became almost non-stop and heavy in several regions, particularly the northern districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and nearby Chengelpet, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Villupuram.With heavy rains pounding several regions of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, the Chennai Corporation says storm water drains are not designed for heavy rains, only for the average annual rains. With extreme weather events becoming more frequent, the city needs to be redesigned to become climate-resilient. Reviewing dewatering works in low-lying areas today, the Chief Minister blamed the earlier AIADMK regime. He said, "Shoddy job and corruption are the reason for losses in T Nagar. We have done up to 60 per cent of the work in just six months. After the rainy season, we will set the rest of Chennai right and avert further loss." "So far the governments didn't address our concerns. We hope at least the new government will do something for us. We are tax-paying citizens," said a Chennai resident.Heavy rains pounded several regions of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday as the well marked low pressure area over Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression, which is likely to cross the coast by November 11 evening.Chennai witnesses heavy rains, some trains suspended Heavy rains continue to lash Chennai and its nearby areas on Thursday morning, affecting vehicular movement and causing waterlogging in the city.Incessant rain caused water-logging in several parts of Chennai including the areas of Nungambakkam, Sterling road, KMC Hospital road due to heavy rainfall.
